We are Nature


When we forget our connection to nature, we can lose our connection to self. It's easy to do in the fast paced world we live in these days. Luckily, we can never truly be disconnected from nature because our bodies are made of flesh and bone. They are of the earth. And we often so easily forget the connection we have, despite the fact that we breathe in oxygen from trees, get our nourishment from the living plants and beings that share the planet, and build our homes with the trees and stones mother earth provides. We could not exist without her!


Here are a couple of fun and easy ways to remember your connection and ground yourself:


1. One of my favorite ways is to go for a hike or walk in nature. Leave your phone behind.


2. Go stand outside and imagine that there are roots coming out of the bottom of your feet and going deep down into the earth. From your heart, send love to our Mother Earth. Feel it going down through your feet, into the roots and out into the earth. Breathe. Wait until you feel her send love back to you.


3. The next time you sit down for a meal, take a moment to really think about how this bounty has come to you. For example, in eating an apple, you can imagine the sun shining on the apple tree, the rain quenching the trees thirst as it falls through the leaves, the apple blossom growing into an apple with the change of seasons until it is picked when it reaches perfection. Feel the gratitude within to enjoy such a delicious gift!
